The Compcote® Process

CompCote® sets a new standard in surface finishing for aluminum. It exceeds standard anodizing methods in friction reduction, resistance to abrasion, and ductility. It matches the bending strength of chromic processes while offering greater corrosion resistance and a wider spectrum of colors.

A polymer-aluminum oxide composite coating with revolutionary properties, CompCote® is patented in the USA and registered for patents in Europe and other countries.

The process is environmentally friendly...free of heavy metals, fluoropolymers and PVC.

Corrosion Resistant

CompCote® holds about 3 times longer than conventionally anodized and hardcoat films.

Salt spray test (ASTM B117) - alloy 6061 T6
Anodized (MIL type II) 10 m,
CompCote® 10 m,
Hardcoat films, (MIL type III) 37.5 m
CompCote-H® 37.5 m

Thin chromic acid films (2.0 µm) are well known for their good bending fatigue strength, making them especially useful in aviation. CompCote (2.0 µm) can match ( and in certain cases exceed) chromic film in fatigue strength while surpassing it in tests of corrosion (salt spray ASTM B117).

Abrasion Resistant

CompCote® is over 3 times more resistant to abrasion than anodic oxide films and about 1.5 times more resistant than hardcoat films.

Taber Abraser Test (MIL A 8625F)
Weight loss in mg/1000 cycles
Alloy 6061 T6
Anodic oxide films (MIL 8625, type II)
Hardcoat films (MIL 8625, type III)
